MERKUR Casino UK has finalized the acquisition of Victoria Gate Casino in Leeds, adding a third location to its domestic portfolio. The venue, situated within the city's Victoria Gate complex, closed on July 6 to facilitate the ownership transfer.
Transition and Facility Upgrades
The establishment is scheduled to resume operations on July 13 under the MERKUR brand identity. Management confirmed that all current staff positions will be preserved during the transition. Following the relaunch, the operator intends to implement a new customer loyalty program and renovate the facility to align with corporate standards.
The casino will continue to host table games such as blackjack, poker, and roulette alongside slot machines.
Expansion of UK Operations
This purchase supports the company's wider strategy to invest in the United Kingdom's land-based gaming sector. MERKUR previously established Aberdeen Casino in 2023 and acquired Casino MK in Milton Keynes in 2025. Mark Schertle, chief operating officer for MERKUR Casino UK, stated that the location offers a strategic opportunity for growth within the city's entertainment scene.
Richard Noble, CEO at Victoria Gate Casino, noted that the new owners share a commitment to maintaining service quality.
