On January 23, the iGEN core team met with Dr. Miriam Dalli and officials from the Ministry for Environment, Energy and Enterprise at their Valletta offices. The session aimed to establish a long-term partnership focused on sustainability and diversity initiatives within the local iGaming sector.
Representatives from iGEN, including Chairman Enrico Bradamante and Communications Coordinator Glen Smith, joined industry partners Roderick Spiteri Schillig of Betsson, Liesbeth Oost of Aspire Global, and Ivan Filletti of Gaming Malta. They presented iGEN’s environmental, social, and governance framework to the ministry delegation, which included advisors Andrea Bellia, Kristy Bartolo, and Katrina Cuschieri.
Proposed Environmental Initiatives
The iGEN delegation outlined several policy recommendations for the sector. Priority measures included shifting focus from costly green construction projects toward direct natural habitat protection with increased public access. The group also proposed strengthening eco-rangers and EPU police units with enhanced funding and prosecution authority, alongside a unified digital reporting system for environmental violations. Additional suggestions covered expanded waste management infrastructure, nationwide sustainability awareness programs, and recognition schemes for responsible corporate and individual actions.Ministry representatives acknowledged ongoing progress regarding several proposed measures but noted that public communication of these initiatives requires improvement. The conversation also addressed recently implemented national refuse collection schedules, the BCRS bottle recycling program, urban community gardens, and the enforcement activities of Majjistral Rangers.
Participants further examined challenges related to restricted public access in rural zones.
