Denmark Blocks 334 Illegal Gambling Sites in 2025

Spillemyndigheden, the Danish gambling regulator, intensified its enforcement against unlicensed online operators in 2025. The agency secured court orders to block 334 illegal websites targeting consumers in the country.

The regulator’s annual report, published this week, outlines a strategy combining data analytics, public tips, and collaboration with the Danish Tax Authority. This joint effort placed 695 platforms under investigation. In addition to the blocked domains, 36 websites voluntarily ceased their gambling activities following regulator intervention.

Spillemyndigheden noted that the rise in blocked sites reflects improved surveillance rather than market growth.

Legislative Updates and Digital Enforcement

DNS-level blocking implemented in June 2025 resulted in a 34% drop in traffic to targeted sites over six months. The regulator updated its agreement with Teleindustrien to dynamically block mirror sites without new court orders. These measures align with the "Spilpakke 1" legislation passed in October 2025, which bans gambling advertisements during live sports broadcasts from ten minutes before to ten minutes after the event.

Enforcement efforts now target mobile applications on iOS and Android, alongside social media platforms. Spillemyndigheden established direct complaint channels with Apple, Google, and Meta to remove illicit apps and brand misuse more quickly. A detailed channelisation report regarding these measures is scheduled for release in 2026.
